There are several reasons why adding a QR code to your boards would help over other contact details:
- It gets more eyes, more quickly, on your website – reaching the information is quicker, so more people will be encouraged to look
- It gives reassurance to prospective buyers that your agency is staying technologically relevant in an ever-changing world
- It is increasingly common to share social “tags” (e.g. twitter, Instagram) on boards, which provide little help in viewing the information the prospect wants to see – with QR codes you show not only your technological acumen, but give a benefit to your prospective buyers as well (getting them the information they want more quickly)
It’s usual to work with a contractor to do your board maintenance work these days, so we’ve designed our system to work for third-party board contractors as easily as your direct employees. When they link the code to your website, they simply get asked the additional question of which agent the board is for – the rest is the same easy process.
We also work with some of the major board maintenance companies in the UK – contact us (or your current provider!) to discuss working in the most-convenient way possible – it may even be possible to invoice via your maintenance company, so you’re working on the same board-management IT system (single login for convenience) and have a single invoice for your board services.
If your current provider doesn’t work with us, let us know and introduce us to them – it’s likely we can work together to deliver the best service possible.
The advantages of getting more eyes, more quickly, on your property particulars apply equally to a strong and weak market:
- In a strong market, where buying decisions are made quickly, it gives the greatest possible chance of attracting the attention of the buyer who would make the next-highest offer, before it’s too late
- In a weak market, it increases the number of potential buyers who view the property particulars, increasing the chance – and speed – of a sale
Most of our clients are happy with the existing boards – and reluctant to meet the extra cost of replacing them all! By only providing the code as a label which can be applied at our clients’ discretion, you can continue to use your existing boards if you choose.
When you order new boards, they can be designed to leave a space for the code, or even work with one of our board printer partners to include these in the manufacturing process.
There are two elements:
- The labels are purchased upfront from our web shop [here]. These are your labels, and the codes relating to them are permanently allocated to you. This may be different if proceeding via your board printer or board management company – feel free to check with us before purchasing.
- The subscription to the linking platform, so that the codes link directly to the property particulars, is charged on a per-property, per-month basis – this ensures that you are only paying to link those codes which are in use. As you connect more properties, the cost-per-link goes down.
Caution is only natural these days in our online browsing behaviour, so we have taken steps to show the genuine nature of the RealQR linked codes.
All the URLs which the RealQR codes lead to are at our www.propertydetails.com web address, so the person scanning can see that the link is relevant to the information they’re seeking. This web domain is also written in small print at the bottom of the code label, so they match. The linking system then takes them directly to your website, to see the details of the property they’re stood in front of.
We expect our labels to last around 3 years if there are no unusual circumstances – this is around the expected lifetime of a typical sales board.
Absolutely! The only personal data we process is the device ID of the device which is used to scan the code – we leave it to our clients to decide whether to ask for more information when the prospective buyer reaches your site. This makes your GDPR compliance easier, and also means that you control the data being requested (rather than putting potential website visitors off by demanding their data before letting them view the property information). This device ID is immediately deleted at our end after the prospective buyer is connected with your website
The only other piece of data which is impliedly processed is the location of the device being used – this will always be the location of the board which is being scanned, at the address of the property where it has been erected!
This means that there will be very little change to your GDPR position. You can choose to request as much or as little information about the website visitor as you choose, or invite them to book a viewing, when they reach your site – and the data will be on your system, so you won’t have to migrate it into your CRM!
Whilst we do record the number of scans of each code, and the time when they occurred (so that you can monitor the effectiveness of your RealQR codes, and how the property type and location impacts that) without the device ID it would not be possible to identify an individual, so this information would not be “personal data” for the purposes of GDPR.
We provide you with the number of scans which each code has received, and the times/dates those scans were made, so that you can see how effective the RealQR code labels are for you.
(RealQR note: this feature remains in development, and will be released shortly)
If you wish, you may also add some basic information about the properties which you are posting RealQR codes on (i.e. property type, number of bedrooms, urban/suburban/rural location) so that you can assess the relative effectiveness of the codes across different parts of your stock portfolio.
We considered this, but ultimately we decided that current data protection law would cause the collection of additional data to create additional legal and administrative liabilities for our clients. The collection of such data at our end would also delay the prospective buyer from reaching the web page with the property information, undoing the benefit of using a QR code.
This allows you to choose how much data you collect – if you want to ask the prospective buyer for their information before viewing the page, or when navigating away from your page, you may do so at your end – and this also ensures that the data collected is added directly to your chosen system, rather than collected in ours creating extra work migrating that data
We have made the process as each as possible.
If the webpage with the particulars is up when the board is erected, the board person can simply use the RealQR Linking App to scan the code on the board, search in the app for the relevant page on your website, and make the link with a single button press. They can also add basic information about the property (e.g. type, number of bedrooms etc).
If the webpage isn’t yet available on your website, the board person can simply note the reference of the code or take a picture, and you can make the link by logging onto the client are of our website.
Two reasons:
- It would increase the costs of the code labels significantly
- It adds no benefit, when the same device which would be used to scan the contactless label can be used – more quickly – to scan the QR code
